Urban Decay Naked3 Palette Swatches

Everyone and their mother knows about the Naked series by Urban Decay. In the makeup world you are considered an outcast if you don’t own at least one of the Naked palettes. The second to latest (Urban Decay just launched their Naked Basics 2) addition to the Naked family obeys the laws of the rose gold trend that has been manifesting more rapidly than the Ebola virus over the past couple of years.

For those who are on the fence about getting this little gem of makeup, here are some pictures of the shadows swatched and a few sidenotes on the palette itself.

The palette comes with 4 resealable samples of the Urban Decay Primer Potions in the shades “Original”, “Sin”, “Eden” and “Anti-Aging” of unknown quantity (“Each sample holds about a week’s worth of primer” whatever that means…).

It also comes with a professional-quality, cruelty-free double-ended shadow/blending brush in a rose gold color, corresponding to the palette case. Just as each of its ancestors, the Naked3 comes with 12 shades of eyeshadow, 3 of which are matte, 4 glittery and 5 have a satin finish. With a 1,3g (0.05 oz) of product per shadow and $54 for 12 shadows, you are paying $3,46 per gram of shadow (point of reference MAC shadows cost you $6.66 per gram). Not a bad deal, actually.

Shade Descriptions:
– Strange: Pale Neutral Pink Matte-Satin
– Dust: Pale Metallic Pink Shimmer with Iridescent Micro-Glitter
– Burnout: Light Pinky-Peach Satin
– Limit: Light Dusty Rose Matte
– Buzz: Metallic Rose Shimmer with Silver Micro-Glitter
– Trick: Light Metallic Pinky-Copper Shimmer with Tonal Micro-Sparkle
– Nooner: Medium Pinky-Brown Matte

Out of these I would have to say Limit was the one I had trouble with. The pigmentation is quite poor, and without any primer on my arm, I was struggling to make it show up. Dust, being one of the glittery shadows, was a bit flaky and as its name suggests…dusty. It’s the eyeshadow with the most fallout.

– Liar: Medium Metallic Mauve Shimmer
– Factory: Pinky-Brown Satin
– Mugshot: Metallic Taupe Shimmer with Slight Pink Shift
– Darkside: Deep Taupe-Mauve Satin
– Blackheart: Smoky Black Matte with Rosy Red Micro-Sparkle

Out of the last 5 shadows, which are the darkest in the palette, Darkside had the least payoff. As far as Blackheart goes I wouldn’t actually consider it a black, rather a dark greyish/plum shade with tiny pink(not red) specs of glitter.

Overall, with the exception of Limit and Darkside the Naked3 is as good as any other Urban Decay eyeshadow palette.
