Urban Decay Perversion Mascara Review

Feelin’ naughty lately? Do you want to spice things up a bit? Thinking of getting your…perv on? I got down and dirty so now I can report back to you.
Let’s start with the basics. The Perversion Mascara was released this summer by Urban Decay with claims such as “So intense, you might need a safe word”. The description reads as follows:

Perversion Mascara glides on and gets you sexy in one stroke, yet it won’t quit until you say when. Like a second skin, our ultra-creamy, lengthening and volumizing formula coats each lash with triple-black pigments and a deeply nourishing ingredient blend-for bigger, blacker, badder lashes”

That’s ambitious…Did it follow through,or was it all talk?
First Impressions : It comes in a sleek gunmetal grey tube, with lilac  purple print and as a limited time treat, you get a deluxe sample of the Subversion Lash Primer along with it. Packaging looks sturdy and luxurious and was not as heavy I was expecting it to be.

The wand is fat and fluffy, looking ideal for building volume with its soft bristles. With a semi-dry/semi-wet formula, the developers were trying to please the majority of their clientele. The primer is a basic lash primer, non-fiber and nothing more than you have been getting in dual ended mascaras from the drugstore all those years.

I have been using this mascara for about a week now, because I wanted to have a well-rounded opinion before letting you know how I feel about it. At first, I was a bit disappointed. But in a sense that is normal when you have really high expectations of something. First time i used it, I put on just the mascara on one eye, and both mascara and primer on the other. No major difference in the appearance, but throughout the day, I noticed that the non-primed eye had endured some flaking, which was a bit annoying but salvaged easily the next time I used it.I primed both my eyes and applied one coat at first, and then before letting dry completely a second one.

Doing this,I find that I get a bit more out of the mascara without having my lashes looking spidery. It didn’t get clumpy and I was generally pleased with the result. It leaves your lashes soft and fluffy, which is always a plus for me, since I despise stone hard lashes. It wore nicely throughout the day, and was fairly easy to take off. Didn’t irritate my sensitive eyes either. +1 point right there!

But let’s get to the gist. This mascara retails for $22 and the free lash primer is a limited time offer. The full size Subversion Lash Primer retails for $20. If the mascara does not perform outstandingly well without the primer, this whole game is lost for Urban Decay. Yes,it is indeed a very nice mascara, that makes your lashes look fuller and “sexier”, but would I pay $42 dollars for the whole package deal? No. Am I going to throw it away and never use it again? Hell,no! It’s doing its job, and it’s doing it well.

Would I repurchase? Probably not. The claim that it needs only one stroke was not true, in my case at least, and I really cannot bother with applying multiple coats in order to get full lashes. Flaking is not acceptable for a mascara of its caliber and while we’re at it, the wand is a bit too big. It could easily get messy if you’re in a rush,or a bit sloppy.

Again, the expectations were very high. And my Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara has spoiled me for life.

Have you tried it yet? What did you think of it?
