I haven’t seen so much controversy around a makeup product in like … ever. People love it, people hate it and I am standing here as the infamous justice statue with the old school scales at hand weighing out the pros and the cons of this much talked about mascara.
I should start by saying, that I should not call it a mascara. I’d rather call it a “lash extension kit”. And you will see why in a minute.
This Fiber Lash system consists of two products. One: The Moodstuck Transplanting Gel
and Two: The Moodstruck Natural Fibers.
They come in a very sturdy and chic little case that looks like a regular case for reading glasses. Inside that case you will find both the products mentioned above as well as an instructional manual that reads :
“The Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes set is a new eyelash enhancing duo that provides a 300% increase in the thickness and volume to your lashes while still looking completely real and natural. Follow the following steps to see a new dimension of beauty!”
Let’s go through the steps, shall we?
” 1. Apply a thin coat of your favourite regular mascara on both sets of lashes.Let dry.
2. Then apply even coat of Transplanting Gel on lashes.
3. Immediately, before gel has time to dry, apply fibers onto lashes.
4. Lastly, seal the fibers with another coat of Transplanting Gel. ”
I should mention at this point that Step 1 is optional. Some tips for better results are also included in the pamphlet, such as
- Do one eye at a time
- Use lash comb to separate lashes and eliminate clumps
- Apply 3D Fiber Lashes as many times as you want, but be sure to seal them with the Transplanting Gel each time
- If you apply too many fibers in one step, you’ll have fibers fall onto your cheeks
…and I did all those things. And I have to say, I am really impressed. Once you find out how many coats are too many for your personal taste and and manage to stay under that number, this product can be really good.
You can either create a glamorous look by applying a coat of your own mascara first and build up the desired length and volume with the fibers, OR you can create a really natural looking set of lashes by just starting up with the Transplanting Gel itself, add only one coat of fibers and seal it. Either way, you have to be totally useless at applying mascara to reach the freakishly clumpy and spidery lashes that I have seen running around on IG. Or do it on purpose…if you know what I mean.
There are a few things that I am iffy about as far as this product is concerned, though. To begin with, I did get a little annoyed with fibers getting in my eye, both while applying them and while trying to take them off. You have to be extra careful, and try to stay away from your eyeball. The other thing that is a bit annoying is the price… The Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes retail for $29, which to be completely honest seems a bit excessive…Considering that the mascara that I usually go for and swear by (Too Faced Better than Sex) goes for $22.
Another thing I should point out, is that this set is ideal for people looking to build up length and not so much volume, but still you can get a beautiful result, as long as you remember not to go overboard. Less is more…
